Wandering Hog

Day five.  Onward to Queenstown - the bungy jumping capital of the world!  The rain was pouring when we left but after thirty minutes on the road, the rain started to dissipate.  When we arrived at Queenstown, we immediately checked in to our hotel and walk around the town looking for a bungy jumping place.  We found AJ Hackett International (www.ajhackett.com).  I was a little unsure at first and decided that if I’m going to bungy jump, this would be the best place.

So, ticket was paid and  “toe tag” was given.   All I need to do now is muster the courage to jump off a 43-meter bridge.  Guess what, I did!

I checked the map and noted that there are some beautiful side trips around Queenstown.  We decided to saddle up and drive towards the famous Glenorchy.  Glenorchy is known for it’s beautiful snow capped mountains, blue lakes and the site for Lord of Ring.

Day four.  Next in our itinerary is Milford Sound.  We heard so many good things about Milford Sound that we decided to stay for an extra night to explore the sound.  I woke up early with my husband making me a cup of hot chocolate (yes, I do not drink coffee) and several cups of coffee for himself.  We were told that it is best to drive early to Milford Sound to avoid riding the tail of trucks, vans and campers.  We turned on the television to check the weather.  Not having any luck, my husband stick his hand out the window.  The verdict: it is FAC (freezing as cold).  Time to bundle up and change camera for the day.  The road to Milford Sound was cold and misty.  The sunrise, snow capped mountains, fog on the meadows and mist created a very dramatic landscape.  I am glad we ride out early!

Day three.  Next stop, Te Anau.   The way to Te Anau was pretty spectacular by itself.  My thoughts were then briefly interrupted by the fact that my fingers are cold and my camera, like me, do not like cold temperatures.  It was then that I resigned to the fact that as we climb higher elevation, it will get colder and wetter.  I’m just hoping that at least I could get a photo or two as a souvenir.  When we reach the town, we parked our bike for the day and explore the area by foot.  Do not get me wrong,  I love riding the bike but it is nice to walk for a change.
